The beauty of Hue garden house is defined in the unique philosophy of seeking an absolute harmony between architecture, human beings, and nature, creating a united whole where the quality of romance, and poetry are still kept alive.
Visitors will be able to discover garden houses located within Kim Long Ward. Apart from the garden house of nobility, the ones belonging to those who were not from the aristocratic class still bring about interesting culture, lifestyle, and values. It is a tangible heritage that can be identified as what the commoners are. An iconic example is the garden house of Mr. Doan Kim Khanh extending a total area of 5000 meters square, and being grown with green fruit trees.
The garden has been created out of a wilderness and tidied up with the acalypha siamensis shrub walkway linking the entrance gate and the main house. Although it does not possess the multicolored beauty of An Hiên, this garden is planted with many common trees which are very easily found, and highly recognized in both Hue City and Central Vietnam; therefore, it generates a feeling of familiarity and a sense of belonging.
This garden house also follows the architectural rule of three rooms and two lean-tos. The house framing is built up with precious timber, and wood. The system of principal posts, and additional ones is closely, and strongly connected, helping to partition into different sections. Being less in terms of nobility level, this house was designed in a simple style; however, the interior work still indicates the great attempt of owners in taking care of, and beautifying the house with decorative engraved items.
In 2017, the garden house of Mr. Doan Kim Khanh was selected by Thua Thien Hue local government to be entitled to financial support for reconstruction. This was an integral part of the garden house heritage preservation project of Thua Thien Hue Province.
Prominently, this garden house will interestingly reveal another historical, and cultural aspect of Hue residents. Despite its humble origin compared to those of the high class of aristocracy, they are still able to find their ways to provoke a pleasing sensation, and equilibrium between human beings, and nature right in their own home.
