About Tu Dam Pagoda

Tu Dam pagoda has been steeped in its history, and plays an important part in the development of Vietnamese Buddhism. Nowadays, Tu Dam Pagoda is the head quarter of the Vietnamese Buddhist Sangha in Thua Thien Hue Province.
Tu Dam Pagoda, which is one of the ancient big pagodas with its great significance in Hue, is located at Truong An Ward, Su Lieu Quan street. The pagoda was constructed in 1695, and was a headquarter of Buddhist An Nam Group and is a working place of Buddist Sangha in Thua Thien “ Hue Province now.
The pagoda has its Buddhist original spiral architecture with simple organization of interiors and worshipping statues. Visiting the pagoda, tourists will be impressed by the tranquil and peaceful charm as well as the solemnity of the inner area, central chamber and the large and outstanding An Ton tower.
Through many times of restoration, expansion and reparation, Tu Dam Pagoda has still been properly appreciated and considered as a typical representative of Hue ancient pagoda architecture. This is also a place to celebrate huge festivals of the city or even of the province (Vesak, Vu Lan Festival, Lunar New Year worshipping event,...), attracting a large number of Buddhists and tourists.
