This temple was located on a hill named Ngoc Tran (the Jade Bowl hill). Formerly this hill was also called Huong Uyen Son. People often called the hill Hon Chen (the Bowl hill). Viewed from a distance the hill looks like a bowl lying prone on the Perfume River.
The Jade Bowl temple is not only a place for believers to come and worship the Goddess, but also it is recognized as a distinctive site of landscape architecture in Hue. The old architect selected a site of magnificent natural landscape. The hilly terrain here in general looks like a dragon rolling down to take a drink at the Perfume River and the dragon's head is the place where the temple is located. The Jade Bowl temple is composed of 16 architectural works, big or small, perching on the hillside of Ngoc Tran Mountain. It faces the Perfume River, now appearing disappearing in the green foliage of age-old trees. The total area of this temple is not very large with the main construction, the Minh Kinh Dai, located in the center.
