About Bao Vinh ancient town

Bao Vinh ancient town, located 3km from the center of Hue City, was once the busiest trading port of Hue ancient capital. The system of old houses and the unique architecture of the ancient town of Bao Vinh has been almost "forgotten" for decades. Bao Vinh ancient town, which is currently in Huong Vinh Commune, Huong Tra Town, is an old town lying by the river, with distinctive designs of antique houses. For more than two centuries of existence, these old houses have rotted and lost over time. In 1991, Thua Thien Hue Provincial People's Committee surveyed and planned the area of Bao Vinh ancient town. Back at that time, there were only 39 old houses left here. Initially, these old houses were intended to be preserved in order to promote the value of traditional architecture of antique houses in Hue as well as for tourism exploitation. Bao Vinh ancient town has existed since the 19th century until now, used to be a bustling trading port well-known for its antique constructions with cultural and historical values. In terms of architecture, Bao Vinh ancient town was consisted of many ancient nha ruong (a kind of wooden house in Hue) with market and street style, wooden slopes and roofs with low tiles. The house normally has three main compartments, in which, there is a main door in the middle and two side doors in each wing. The row of houses lying by the river using quadrilateral design of the antique houses overlook the river. Time flies with sequence of historical events, Bao Vinh has gradually lost its importance and the preservation seemed to be forgotten. Thua Thien Hue Province has also considered preserving Bao Vinh ancient town for many years, but due to limited investment resource, it has not been implemented.
